JamesA suitable space is being prepared in the nave of Saint Stanislaus to house the original baptismal font. The font is presently in a small chapel, accessible only through the sanctuary. Originally, the white marble font was situated in the sanctuary itself, as you can see in the old photo below.
A little history: Like many historic Catholic churches, Saint Stanislaus suffered from a terrible “renovation” in the 60s. (This was done in the name of Vatican II and opening up to the modern world, renewing the Church, etc. Gee, in hindsight, how did all that play out?) At Saint Stanislaus, the beautiful altar rail was ripped out, the sanctuary radically altered, the stained glass windows removed…it was horrible. You have to wonder who in his right mind would authorize such an abomination. Thankfully, the Institute of Christ the King, the current custodian of the parish, is restoring as much of the church’s original beauty as possible.
