Yesterday morning a devastating fire tore through the Shrine of Christ the King Sovereign Priest in Chicago. The Institute of Christ the King also has a presence here in Milwaukee at Saint Stanislaus. It’s a close-knit family and so it would be great if we could do whatever we can in Milwaukee to help out our neighbors to the south in the wake of this horrible fire. The Institute had, in recent years, done a lot of work to renovate and restore this historic church to reflect the dignity and beauty of the sacred liturgy, and so news of the fire’s destruction was particularly painful. Thankfully, no one was killed or injured and the Blessed Sacrament was safe inside the tabernacle. And miraculously, the revered 18th century Spanish Infant of Prague statue was not seriously damaged! The Infant occupies a place of honor in the sanctuary of the shrine.

That is the statement the Rev. Canon Matthew Talarico, Provincial Superior of the US Province of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest, would like to pass on to the many friends, benefactors, and residents of the city of Chicago regarding the October 7th fire that has devastated for a second time the historic church, now known as the Shrine of Christ the King Sovereign Priest, on 64th and Woodlawn.
