Jake RossIn 2007, I was fortunate to attend a lecture in Virginia on Islam given by Robert Spencer. As a member of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church, a scholar of Catholic history, and a diligent student of Islamic theology since 1980, Robert Spencer’s knowledge about Islam is second to none. Since the 2007 lecture, Spencer’s reputation on the subject of Islam has skyrocketed, making him one of the most important voices in the world on the topic. However, his desire to speak the truth about Islam has come at a great personal cost. Spencer regularly receives death threats from angry Muslims who seek revenge for his shining the spotlight of truth on Islam. He’s also frequently slandered by many liberal American panjandrums, who condemn Spencer’s positions as nothing more than bigoted Islamophobia, accusing him of sowing discord and inciting hatred, etc.
In June of 2013, Robert Spencer was banned from the United Kingdom after saying the following:
“…It [Islam] is a religion or a belief system that mandates warfare against unbelievers for the purpose of establishing a societal model that is absolutely incompatible with Western society … because of media and general government unwillingness to face the sources of Islamic terrorism these things remain largely unknown.”
His scholarly books, like Islam Unveiled, (which I highly recommend) have also been outlawed in dozens of Middle Eastern countries, including Pakistan in 2006.
